Remediation

If it is determined that a mold problem exists in your home or work environment, it will be necessary to remediate the problem immediately. Before the mold is removed it is first be necessary to determine the cause of the mold growth. Since mold growth is caused by excessive moisture, an inspection of the interior and exterior of the building in question must be performed to determine, if possible, the source of the excessive moisture that led to the mold problem in question. If a source for the excessive moisture is found, it must be repaired before the mold itself is abated. Failure to eliminate the cause of the excessive moisture will result in a recurrence of the mold problem.

Once the moisture problems have been eliminated, the mold itself can be abated. The abatement of mold from the indoor environment should be performed by a company with experience in mold remediation. These companies have the proper equipment and expertise to remove the mold from the indoor environment without unnecessary exposure to the inhabitants of the building, to the mold, and any potential toxins.

Once the remediation of the mold has been completed, it is recommended that follow-up testing of the area that was remediated be performed to ensure the remediation was properly done, and the mold problem was abated. The follow-up testing will determine not only if the conditions for mold growth have been eliminated, but also if the excessive levels of mold present in the contaminated area have been eliminated. This will help to ensure that the likelihood of a recurrence of the mold problem in the area in question remains small.
